Orthopaedic study evening - GP shoulder joint injection and examination

A free shoulder joint injection and examination workshop will be delivered by the Midland Orthopaedic Practice, specifically for GPs, and will offer one and a half hours of learning time, with confirmation issued on attendance. The workshop is suitable for GPs who currently have no shoulder joint or any joint injections experience and are looking to perform in general practice, as well as being suitable for GPs who currently inject and are seeking to refresh their injection technique.

The workshop runs from 7 - 8.30pm. The format of the evening will include a brief lecture/overview of indications for injecting the shoulder, followed by practical techniques using an electronic shoulder model, giving attendees the opportunity to practice their injection technique.

The workshop will be delivered by Mr Marcus Green, Consultant Orthopaedic Knee and Shoulder Surgeon of the Birmingham Knee and Shoulder Clinic and Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. NHS Foundation Trust. Learning objectives from the session include:

  • Indications for the different locations of injections around the shoulder
  • Techniques of injections around the shoulder
  • Post-injection advice and course
  • Outcomes and complications
  • Shoulder examination.
