National survey finds 73% of stakeholders would recommend working with AHSNs

NHS England and the AHSN Network have today published the results of the first stakeholder survey to measure the current perception of AHSNs across England; with the majority of respondents (73%) saying they would recommend working with AHSNs. 1,200 people from across health and social care, patient groups, academia, industry and the charity sector took part in the survey to share their views on how the AHSNs are delivering on increasing the adoption and diffusion of innovation and research, and spreading best practice across the NHS.

Review names AHSNs as having key roles in accessing transformative health technology

Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs) are to have a key role in aiding the NHS to access transformative health technology, according to the Accelerated Access Review (AAR). This review of innovative medicines and medical technologies, supported by the Wellcome Trust, has explored the question of accelerated access through four workstreams spanning the development pathway, and a fifth focusing on patient engagement in all parts of the pathway. Each workstream has looked across issues concerning drugs, devices, diagnostics and digital health products.

WMAHSN stakeholders are invited to take part in a study, mapping new contacts established at or through AHSNs to support regional economic development and wealth creation. The research team is welcoming AHSN partners, members and other stakeholders to take part in their Time 2 survey. The data will be used to investigate how wealth and health networks intersect, detect knowledge clusters and gaps, capture knowledge flows within and across AHSN regions and identify any early implementation and wealth creation outcomes emerging from these exchanges.

The West Midlands Academic Health Science Network (WMAHSN) hosted their second Health and Wealth Economic Summit, which saw healthcare industry, NHS, academic and patient representatives pack into the Birmingham Botanical Gardens in Edgbaston to hear how driving co-operation and productivity in healthcare can boost economic productivity, as well as increasing the employability of people across the region.
