Are you taking part in the 100,000 Genomes Project with the West Midlands Genomics Medicine Centre? Genomics England is looking for participants to be part of the national 100,000 Genomes Project Participant Panel. The role of the panel is to ensure that the interests of participants are always at the centre of the 100,000 Genomes Project. They will make sure that the experiences of participants are improved, respond to feedback and oversee who should have access to participant data.

National event showcases WMAHSN programme which aims to make 1,000 differences to people with diabetes

WMAHSN used the opportunity of the Pharmacy Show in October to highlight a successful programme it is running on medicines optimisation for diabetes. Lucy Chatwin, Business Manager with WMAHSN, along with Sat Kotecha, the West Midlands’ Pharmacy Local Professional Network Chair, delivered a session on "Make a difference with diabetes" at the show. Lucy leads the “Making a difference to people with diabetes through medicines optimisation” programme, which aims to make a difference by bringing together a community of like-minded people to share and spread ideas to improve the lives of people in the West Midlands with diabetes.

NHS organisations from across the West Midlands were victorious last night (18 November) at the UK's most prestigious healthcare awards ceremony. Hundreds packed into the Grosvenor House Hotel on London's Park Lane to see no less than four local organisations honoured at the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards 2015. The HSJ Awards showcase the efforts of organisations to deliver the best care in the most effective way and have grown to become the largest celebration of healthcare excellence in the country.

This piece of work aims to build on findings from a similar survey conducted by HEE last year, as well as providing a baseline of activity across three areas. It is part of the national Talent for Care and Widening Participation work programme. The deadline for completing this survey is 14 December.

Successful life sciences traineeship programme lays the foundation for the West Midlands workforce of the future

An innovative traineeship programme, which looks to create the workforce of the future in the West Midlands' life sciences sector, has been hailed a success following the publication of an evaluation report. During the summer holidays, Medilink West Midlands - WMAHSN’s Industry Gateway partner – worked with a local NHS organisation and an SME to deliver the traineeship programme for 20 young people in the West Midlands region. The traineeship uniquely linked the two critical elements that make up the commercial aspect of the life sciences sector: placement within the NHS, combined with placement in a medically related SME.
