The University of Birmingham has launched a new competition to support SMEs across the country. The competition has two award categories, ‘High growth innovative SME of the year’ and ‘Best innovative idea for exploitation’.

Winners will receive £5,000 in funding to support either their intellectual property or R&D needs to help grow their business.

The ‘High growth innovative SME of the year’ highlights the most exciting and innovative companies in the UK, and is open to privately-owned SMEs that can demonstrate significant growth through research and development over the past three years.

The ‘Best innovative idea for exploitation’ will support a company that has a great idea, possibly developed with the university, and is looking for the most effective way to commercialise that idea.
