Temperatures soared to over 34 degrees in Birmingham but that didn’t stop more than 70 delegates from NHS organisations, patients and academia coming along to the Learning from Excellence Where did it all go so right? event, with guests travelling from as far as Plymouth, Newcastle, Glasgow and Wessex. Learning from Excellence (LFE) concentrates on looking at what goes right (positive incident reporting) and learning from excellence for safety and quality improvement.

Improving care of patients with Atrial Fibrillation in order to reduce stroke risk - request for proposals

The Pfizer Independent Grants for Learning & Change, on behalf of the Bristol-Myers Squibb – Pfizer Alliance and along with the AHSNs, have jointly issued a Request for Proposals designed to improve the care of patients with Atrial Fibrillation in order to reduce stroke risk. It is expected that projects will be evidence-based education and/or quality improvement programmes.

Applications for 2016 NIA now closed

Applications have now closed for the 2016 NHS Innovation Accelerator (NIA). Further to an extensive shortlisting and interview process, successful applicants will be notified at the beginning of October. This will be followed by an official launch event on 9 November. All applications to the NIA are additionally being considered for the new Innovation and Technology Tariff.

Beginning on 17 August, NHS England is conducting an independent stakeholder survey to ascertain the experience of individuals and organisations who are members of, or who have worked with, an Academic Health Science Network (AHSN). This is a key opportunity for stakeholders to feedback on their experience of working with AHSNs. There are two surveys, one with specific questions about WMAHSN and another exploring AHSNs as a whole.

Following feedback from Master’s students, course leaders and other leaders in Genomic Medicine, the arrangements for the Genomics Education Programme Faculty Symposium are to be revised. A more interactive format is to be developed to allow more students to participate and a broader range of speaker contributions. This means the physical event in Manchester planned for Friday 9 September will no longer take place.

Extended deadline for NIA enables more innovations to be considered for Technology Tariff

NHS England has confirmed that the route for innovations wishing to be considered for the new Innovation and Technology Tariff, as announced on 17 June at NHS Confed, will be via the NHS Innovation Accelerator (NIA) application process. The deadline for the 2016 NIA has therefore been extended until 16 August to enable more cutting edge innovations to be considered for the Tariff in addition to the NIA.

The consultation period finishes at 5pm on 25 August.
