Project Status

In Progress

The ePrescribing programme has made progress towards a clear framework to make ePrescribing pervasive, with resulting improvements in patient safety, cost-effectiveness and professional efficiency. The programme has undertaken a survey of more than 25 NHS trusts in the West Midlands, analysed data from participants and established a large and growing network of professionals focused on developing and implementing ePrescribing across the region.

The planned outcome is a completed usability study for the Digital Maturity Index across the West Midlands, via Microsoft Excel and macros, to form the basis of a web based matrix.

Programme Outcomes

  • The programme’s start was delayed by challenges in recruiting a suitably qualified lead pharmacist, but progress has since accelerated.
  • Survey of more than 25 NHS trusts in the West Midlands, with a 60% response rate.
  • Data analysis from participants is on track, with the findings due to be presented at a dedicated conference at the ICC in June 2015.
  • In addition to analysing and influencing digital maturity in ePrescribing across the region, the work is informing national policy through the NHS England’s National Programme Lead for Digital Maturity.
  • The establishment of a large and growing network of professionals focused on developing and implementing ePrescribing across the region.
