National Patient Safety Programme

National Patient Safety Improvement Programme

HIWM manage a number of programmes and initiatives to improve patient safety across a range of care settings. As one of 15 Health Innovation Networks, we contribute to the NHS Patient Safety Strategy, and support the delivery of the National Patient Safety Improvement Programme (NatPatSIP).

There are 15 Patient Safety Collaboratives (PSCs) in England, each hosted locally by a Health Innovation Network, playing an essential role in identifying and spreading safer care initiatives from within the NHS and industry, ensuring these are shared and implemented throughout the health and care system.

The NatPatSIP’s current work is focused across five safety improvement programmes;

  • Managing Deterioration (ManDetSIP)
  • Maternity and Neonatal (MatNeoSIP)
  • Adoption and Spread (A&S-SIP)
  • Medicines Safety (MedSIP)
  • Mental Health (MHSIP)
