Pharmacy Care Home Network

Published on 1 December 2021

About the project

The Pharmacy Care Home Network was established in 2020 to aid communication and share best practice across the West Midlands Region for both Pharmacists and Technicians supporting medicines optimisation in nursing and residential care homes.

Following an initial engagement event with care home pharmacists and technicians across the West Midlands in December 2019, it was apparent the teams had no forum to share best practice. In response to the COIVD-19 pandemic, formation of the Network was escalated, following a request from NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSE/I) for primary and community pharmacy support for care home residents, notably in the following areas: medicines supply and reuse; structured medication reviews; review of residents discharged from hospital; medicines ordering.

Project ambitions

The main objective of the Network is to provide the opportunity and forum for care home supporting pharmacists and technicians across the West Midlands to share best practice and discuss regional and national priorities.
